Notably, Melhem conducted Barack Obama's first formal interview as President in January 2009, which was aired on Al-Arabiya. Melhem and Obama spoke about Obama's plans to change America's relationship with the Arab world and Obama's appointment of George Mitchell as envoy to attempt to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
He also has appeared numerous times on News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Good Morning America, and Nightline, as well as on NPR. His writings on inter-Arab relations, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and U.S. policy in the Middle East have appeared in publications across America and the world, such as Foreign Policy, the Los Angeles Times, and literary journal Al-Mawaqef.
Mr. Melhem will present two lectures, the first following the lunch format and the second after dinner. He will speak on the likely course of relations in the near future between the United States, Iraq and Iran. He will also discuss the proliferation of television and blogs as media outlets in the Arab world and their effects on the region's political discourse.
