The series, which was the biggest hit in the history of BBC, stars Derek Jacobi, who has been hailed as the greatest English speaking actor of his generation. Last summer during the Olympics Arts Festival Jacobi scored a triumph in his appearances with the Royal Shakespeare Company. As I, Claudius, which was dramatized by Jack Pulman from Robert Graves's famous novel, Jacobi gives a remarkable performance as the stammering, limping Claudius who sheds his reputation as a fool, almost a court jester, to become a great emperor in a Rome filled with intrigue, decadence, and rampant ambition. Co-starring with Jacobi is Sian Philips as the scheming, ruthless, and remarkable Livia.
I, Claudius is a grandly entertaining and enriching series. Plan to sign-up for all seven evenings by September 18.
Speakers will discuss their own preparation and experiences, their operating policies, and their personal principles. Participation will be limited to 25 to allow personal interaction and attendance at all five sessions will be encouraged. Professor Bjork is the organizer of the series and can supply further information.
