CMC Alumna Named
Obama Deputy Field Director

Taryn Benarroch '05 has been named Deputy Field Director for Barack Obama's Orlando/Central Florida campaign office.

Benarroch, a government and music dual major while at CMC, got her first taste of politics working for Rep. Adam Schiff's 2000 campaign, the Orlando Sentinel reported on Sept. 15, "which remains the most expensive U.S. House race."

Benarroch has previously said she chose Claremont McKenna over the University of Southern California's school of music for the sake of a well-rounded education. She studied abroad in Milan in the fall of 2003, taking voice lessons and singing in a conservatory workshop. During the academic year, she performed in the Pomona College Choir.

In summer 2004, Benarroch traveled to Bulgaria to perform with the Bourgas Opera-Philharmonic Society during a one-month international opera workshop for students who have professional singing aspirations.

After graduating from CMC in 2005, Benarroch taught special education students in the South Bronx as a member of Teach for America, and joined the Obama campaign in July 2007. According to the Sentinel, she has worked for Sen. Obama in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Oregon.
