Reporting to the vice president for student affairs/dean of students, with dotted line reporting to the dean of the Robert Day School, the executive director of career services is the chief career services officer and as such is responsible for leading CMC’s undergraduate career services office and for developing a dynamic new program of services for all Robert Day Scholars Program students. The director is responsible for developing a broad portfolio of services that supports each student’s career trajectory, maintains connections between academic studies and career choice, and provides services that prepares students for responsible roles in a complex global society. Active leadership and partnering with faculty, alumni, parents, and employers to develop experiential learning opportunities and expand recruitment opportunities for all students will be a key focus. Leading the office’s communications and marketing efforts, developing and stewarding employer relations, expanding internship opportunities, and advising students applying to graduate school are also responsibilities of the director. Other responsibilities include collaborating with the vice president for student affairs, dean of the Robert Day School, faculty, and others in the development of a comprehensive long-range plan and managing the department’s budget. Staff support for the position includes two associate directors, one coordinator, and an administrative assistant.
Qualifications:
A master’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience are required. The successful candidate will have had progressively responsible experience demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of career development, job search strategies, job market trends, employer relations, contemporary recruitment methodologies, and trends in career services including the use of current technologies. Evidence of working creatively and effectively with broad constituencies (e.g. students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers); commitment to customer service; strong verbal and written communication, marketing, and public relations skills; excellent leadership and organizational skills with an attention to detail and the ability to multitask; and prior management experience utilizing a team approach will be important in the consideration of the director of career services. The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for managing, developing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive annual giving program for the College through major donor clubs, telemarketing, direct mail, and reunions. This professional will have oversight for developing all activities, events, and gift solicitation programs for The Fund for CMC (which include the Alumni Fund, the Parents Fund, and the Friends Fund) and will personally solicit gifts of $5,000 or more. He/she will work closely with a large team of volunteers to accomplish goals.
The Director will provide leadership to annual giving programs that deepen CMC’s relationship with alumni and parents and engages them in the life of the College. This individual will also supervise associate directors of annual giving who manage the telemarketing program and recruitment of student solicitors, young alumni program, reunion gift program, faculty/staff campaign, and other aspects of the Alumni Fund and Parents Fund program.
SPECIFIC
DUTIES:
1. Develops a comprehensive plan for the annual giving program including revenue and expenditures for inclusion in the overall development plan.
a. Develops and maintains the budget.
b. Sets goals based on historical analysis of donor and prospect base and College needs.
c. Develops targeted campaigns for parents of current and former students, alumni parents, faculty, and staff.
d. Establishes complex calendar of solicitations by targeted constituency and fundraising strategy.
e. Develops and monitors cash flow projection, informing the Vice President for Development and External Affairs of significant variances.
f. Provides ongoing and targeted evaluation and analysis to meet goals.
2. Works collaboratively with the alumni relations staff on the organization of reunions and class liaison programs designed to raise annual support from alumni.
3. Organizes and manages the major donor recognition groups designed to identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts of $1,500 or more using a variety of tactics, including face-to-face contact.
4. Personally contacts prospects for the annual fund at the $5,000 plus level.
5. Staffs the volunteer leadership for the annual fund, including ensuring that volunteers receive the appropriate support and recognition.
a. Manages an effective program of personal solicitation utilizing top-level volunteers, including identifying, enlisting, training, and recognizing volunteers.
6. Coordinates annual fund with other College fundraising and alumni relations programs.
7. Ensures that major gift prospects are identified among current annual fund donors and that they are targeted for appropriate cultivation and solicitation.
8. Monitors program results and provides ongoing analysis and evaluation of solicitation programs.
a. Reports annual giving program results by solicitation method and constituency on a routine basis.
b. Recommends changes in strategies and establishes new programs to meet program goals and objectives, and to expand annual gifts as well as other gifts to the College.
9. Composes written documents and brochures in support of annual giving campaign.
10. Coordinates advertising publications, direct mail pieces, lead letter mailings, gift acknowledgements, and pledge fulfillment.
11. Coordinates stewardship plan for annual fund donors.
a. Maximizes the corporate matching gift potential among current and prospective annual fund donors.
12. Solicit annual and capital gifts from approximately 75-100 personal solicitation prospects.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Preference will be given to professionals with experience in higher education, although related experience will also be considered. Familiarity with the workings and values of highly selective liberal arts colleges is a plus.
• The successful candidate will have at least seven years of development experience with demonstrated success and experience in an annual giving program. The ability to bring gift solicitations (personal, written, and telephonic) to successful closure is required.
• Knowledge of direct mail, telemarketing, face-to-face, and Internet solicitation.
• Experience in proposing, implementing, and evaluating new and innovative fund raising programs.
• Demonstrated experience in short- and long-range planning.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate proactively and effectively with diverse publics.
• Must have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, donors, and trustees.

11. Manage the design and production of all marketing collateral documents, including those that are campaign specific, which enhance the overall branding effort of Claremont McKenna College.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.

This includes a career of demonstrated achievements as well as the attainment of desired, specific objectives.
