Microfinance Task Force

The goal of the Microfinance Task Force is to promote awareness of development initiatives and support economic solutions to poverty. For the fall 2009 semester, the Microfinance Task Force is working with the Chiapas Project through their Recycle to Eradicate Poverty Campaign. We will be collecting old cell phones and ink cartridges. The Chiapas Project receives a 300  dollar donation for every used cell phone and up to a  5 dollar donation for every used ink cartridge collected. The Chiapas Project uses the money to fund microloans to the poor. Our goal is to recycle 50 cell phones in the fall semester.

In the future we plan to host speakers in the field of development economics. We want to promote awareness of microfinance by sponsoring student participation in microfinance conferences. We are also in the process of establishing partnerships with microfinance institutions. The Task Force's chairs are Gabriela Andrade '12, Aisling Scott '12, and Van-Anh Su '13.
