Airport Pick-up and Host Family Program

I-Place Airport Pick-up Program

For newly arriving international students and scholars, International Place can assist with a complimentary airport pick-up from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX, located approximately one hour from Claremont) or Ontario International Airport (ONT, located approximately 15 minutes from Claremont). Airport pick-up is only available for those students and scholars who plan to participate in New International Student and Scholar Orientation.  Please check our Airport Pick-Up and Host Family Availability Dates before you make travel arrangements.  We must receive your request for airport pickup with at least 2 weeks advance notice. In order to request this service, please complete and submit our New Student/Scholar Form as soon as you have made your travel arrangements. This service is also available to family members accompanying you upon your arrival.

Please note that we are unable to arrange for airport pick-up for international flights arriving after 8:00 pm or domestic flights arriving after 9:00 pm.  If your flight arrives after these hours, you will need to make other transportation arrangements (see the Ground Transportation link for your arrival airport).  In some cases, we may be able to arrange for pick-up at the airport the morning following a late-night arrival.

I-Place Host Family Program

For newly arriving international students and scholars, International Place can assist by arranging a complimentary temporary homestay with a local volunteer host family. The Host Family Program is only available for those students and scholars who plan to participate in New International Student and Scholar Orientation.  Please check our Airport Pick-Up and Host Family Availability Dates before you make travel arrangements. In order to request this service, please complete and submit our New Student/Scholar Form as soon as you have made your travel arrangements.  We must receive your request for airport pickup with at least 2 weeks advance notice.

Please note that we have a limited number of host families and host family placement is not guaranteed.  New students and scholars who are unable to participate in New International Student and Scholar Orientation but who need temporary housing upon arrival may need to make other arrangements.  Also, we are unable to arrange for a host family for new students/scholars arriving in Claremont after 10:00 pm. If your travel arrangements are such that you will be arriving late at night, you will need to make other arrangements for temporary housing.  Please see our Housing page for more information on additional types of accommodation and a link to a list of local hotels/motels.

The I-Place Host Family Program is designed as a temporary home-stay program to assist with housing immediately upon arrival. It is not designed as a long-term housing option.

  • Host families are volunteers who open their homes to new international students and scholars because they are interested in getting to know people from other countries
  • The Host Family Program is for a maximum of 5 nights. Participants will need to make permanent housing arrangements during that time. If you need more that that amount of time to arrange permanent housing, you must let I-Place know and may need to stay at a local hotel or motel
  • Students and scholars requesting a temporary host family or airport pick-up MUST fill out the New Student/Scholar Form as soon as you purchase your ticket to the United States and absolutely no later than 14 days prior to your arrival. International Place would like to help all students, but cannot do so on short notice
  • We are only able to offer the home-stay program to new students and scholars arriving just prior to the start of the fall and spring semesters and who will participate in New International Student and Scholar Orientation
  • We are only able to arrange a temporary home-stay for new students and scholars. We are not able to arrange temporary home-stay for other family members, such as spouses, children, siblings or parents
