Student Technology Services

Student Technology Services provides Claremont McKenna College students and staff with computing support in a variety of ways. These include, but are not limited to: residential technology assistance, computer laboratory assistance, and help-desk technology assistance. The students employed by STS assist Mike Malsed by responding to computing problems that arise on campus.

Direct support services are provided to CMC students through the STS. Each dorm is served by a Resident Technology Assistant (RTA) who is available to provide on-site computer assistance to dorm residents through drop-in sessions, office hours, and by appointment.

CMC's student computing resources are extensive. Poppa Lab, the primary campus computing facility, hosts 33 PC and 3 Macintosh workstations, 4 scanners, 3 video editing stations, color and high-speed black & white laser printing and is open 24 hours a day with support staff typically available between 9am and midnight. South Lab, also open 24 hours a day, hosts 14 PC workstations, as well as a high-capacity black-and-white printer. Bauer Technology Classroom is open evenings as a student lab, with 17 PC workstations and a black-and-white printer, and offers students the opportunity to work collectively on group projects. It is staffed by technology assistants selected to provide advanced drop-in support on more complex software packages and technical tasks, in support of technology-enhanced portions of the CMC curriculum. Coming in 2008, Ryal Residential Lab, will be available 24/7 and have 20 workstations and laser printing. It will feature an outdoor courtyard with high-speed wireless as well as power outlets for laptops.
