From Your Windows Mobile 2003 Device

To use your device to set up over-the-air synchronization with CMC Email, take these steps:

  1. Tap on the Start menu and then tap on Programs.
  2. Tap on ActiveSync.
  3. Once ActiveSync is open, tap on the Tools menu in the lower left hand corner of the window. Then tap Options.

  4. In Options there are three tabs at the bottom of the windows - PC, Server, and Mobile Schedule. Tap Server.
  5. In the Sync with this server field, enter email.claremontmckenna.edu
  6. Check next to This server uses an SSL connection.
  7. Check the items that you wish to synchronize with your mobile device. The options are Calendar, Contacts, and Inbox (email).

  8. Tap on the Options... button to the right of the Sync with this server field.
  9. On the resulting window, enter your CMC Network User Name in the User Name field, enter your CMC Network Password in the Password field, and enter MCKENNA, in the Domain field.
  10. Tap next to Save password so that you are not required to enter your password every time the device synchronizes with CMC email servers.

  11. Tap ok in the top-right-hand corner of your screen to close the Options... window.
  12. Tap on the Mobile Schedule tab located at the bottom center of the screen.

  13. Tap on the drop down menus to set a synchronization schedule. Here you can set when (Peak times, Off-peak times), where (Roaming), and how often (Manually, Every 5 Minutes, etc) you would like the device to synchronize with CMC email servers. These settings are dependent on your cell phone plan and carrier. For example, most carriers provide an unlimited data plan for a additional monthly price. This allows the sending and receiving of unlimited emails (data) to and from the mobile device. If you have an unlimited data plan such as this, it is recommended to set the Peak times, Off-peak times, and Roaming schedules to Every 5 Minutes by tapping on the drop down menu for each field. This way, every five minutes, the mobile device synchronizes with CMC email servers and therefore maintains the most up-to-date information.
  14. Tap in the box next to Sync outgoing items as they are sent if you wish have your emails sent immediately - without waiting for the next synchronization schedule to occur.
  15. Tap ok in the top-right-hand corner of the screen to close the window and return to the main ActiveSync screen as shown below.

  16. Tap the Sync button to initiate your first synchronization with CMC email servers. When synchronizing the device for the first time, it may take two or three synchronizations before all calendar, contact, and email messages are visible on the device.
