A "chronicle of love and pain," Divine Intervention is a surreal black comedy centered on a day in the life of a Palestinian, played by director Elia Suleiman, who resides in Nazareth and is separated from his girlfriend, played by Manal Khader, who lives in the West Bank city of Ramallah.  The film, largely devoid of dialogue, focuses instead on the silent actions and passions of the human beings whose lives drift between a dour sense of melancholy and a frenetic sense of longing.  The film was nominated for a Palme d'Or at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.  Dialogue is in Arabic and Hebrew, with subtitles in English.
