Five Claremont-Mudd-Scripps teams are ranked in the top-10 nationally as they enter the final weeks of their spring seasons.

  • Women’s track & field is ranked first.
  • Women’s golf is ranked second.
  • Women’s tennis is ranked third.
  • Men’s tennis is ranked fifth.
  • Men’s golf is ranked ninth.

In lacrosse, the Athenas are No. 22 in the country and haven’t lost to a Division III program this season. Men’s track & field has several student-athletes who currently have qualifying times for the NCAA Championships. The Athena softball team is the fourth seed in the upcoming SCIAC Softball Tournament, May 4-6 at La Verne.

“Our scholar-athletes and coaches work tirelessly at their craft which has resulted in a tremendous amount of success for CMS, and we’ll continue to raise our expectations going forward,” said Terrance Tumey, CMS Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation and William B. Arce and George R. Roberts Fellow Instructor of Physical Education.

Since 2015, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps programs have won three NCAA Division III national championships. Many more CMS teams have finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships against the top competition in the country.

As a result, CMS has steadily climbed in the Learfield Directors’ Cup rankings.

The 2016-17 academic year concluded with CMS ranked fourth in the Directors’ Cup standings, its highest placement ever. Currently, CMS is ranked 17th nationally – through the winter season – in the Directors’ Cup, and is first among programs in the West.
