Interim Dean of the Faculty Announced

Dear Members of the CMC Community,

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Professor and Associate Dean of the Faculty Nicholas Warner as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty during an important time of leadership transition at the College.

Warner succeeds Gregory Hess, who leaves in June to become President of Wabash College in Indiana. Warner is the ideal choice to work with our distinguished faculty as a new presidency begins at CMC.

An accomplished and seasoned member of our community, Warner has demonstrated his expertise and effectiveness in a broad range of institutional roles, both academic and administrative.

A member and former chair of the Literature Department, he also serves as the director of the Freshman Humanities Program and oversees our successful Summer Session, which has produced a significant boost in the number of curricular opportunities available to our students.

His work on behalf of the College exhibits a deep understanding and appreciation of our mission across the academic spectrum, from chairing the Curriculum Committee to academic advising, from faculty development and hiring to academic integrity and curriculum development.

Warner is also a noted critic, publishing numerous articles and reviews on Russian, English, and American literature. Choice magazine selected his book, Spirits of America: Intoxication in 19th-Century American Literature, as an "Outstanding Academic Book" in 1999.

Both in his scholarship and teaching, Warner is an innovative and award-winning educator. Specifically, he has focused on the intersection between leadership and literature with courses in “Leadership and Diversity in Literature,” “Leadership in Literature and Film,” and “War in Modern Literature.” Most recently, he co-authored the article “Italian-American Leadership in Hollywood Films: Images and Realities” with colleague Ronald Riggio, Henry R. Kravis Professor of Leadership and Organizational Psychology. In the course of his career at CMC, Warner has been the recipient of seven Huntoon awards (both the Glen R. Huntoon and G. David Huntoon awards), which recognize excellence in teaching.

We are grateful to Dean Hess for his years of service, and we are equally grateful to Associate Dean Warner for taking on these responsibilities as we look to the exciting future of the College. Please join us in congratulating our new Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, Nicholas Warner.

Sincerely,

CMC President Pamela Gann              CMC President-elect Hiram Chodosh
