WHAT: Is speaking on the topic "Reshaping Places: Examples from the Pacific Islands" at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum at Claremont McKenna College.
Professor Ward, one of the world's leading geographers, has also edited, contributed to, or written eleven books, including American Activities in the Central Pacific 1790-1870, Man in the Pacific Islands, The Settlement of Polynesia: A Computer Simulation, and Land, Custom and Practice in the South Pacific. In his lecture, Ward will discuss his current interest in the concepts of distance and isolation, how we put our own boundaries around places and how we use these perceptions in our everyday lives.
