The Henry Salvatori Center at Claremont McKenna College will bring together a nationally prominent panel to analyze the historic first year of the Bush administration in a conference titled Bush's First Year: A Changing Administration in a Changing World, April 5th on the CMC campus. Experts will explore the impact of September 11th and other world-changing events on the new administration.
Panelists will include columnist Michael Barone of U.S. News & World Report, columnist Ron Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek White House correspondent Martha Brant, political scientist Nelson Polsby of the University of California, Berkeley, foreign policy expert Aaron Friedberg of Princeton University, and military strategist Richard Betts of Columbia University. Patrick Caddell, noted pollster and advisor to NBC's The West Wing, will present the keynote address on Thursday, April 4, at 6:45 p.m. in the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum.
"President Bush's first year has been historic," said Charles R. Kesler, Salvatori Center Director. "As the dust settles, we ought to catch our breath and do some sober reflecting."
The opening panel on domestic issues is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, April 5, and the second panel on foreign policy will follow at 2 p.m. A roundtable discussion by all panelists starting at 4 p.m. will conclude the conference. All events will be held in the Founders Room at Bauer Center North.
