Roberts Hall, a remarkable state-of-the-art academic center with classrooms, seminar rooms, faculty offices, and laboratory space, will open to students and faculty in a formal dedication ceremony at 1:30 pm on Monday, Sept. 28, 1998. The ceremony will be held at Roberts Hall South, 325 E. Eighth Street, in Claremont.

The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew, the Senior Minister of Singapore, will be among several diplomats, government leaders, and journalists who will convene in Claremont and Los Angeles for a major conference to explore "The Media in East Asia: Press and Politics in Economic Crisis" from Wednesday, October 28 through Friday October 30, 1998.

Gordon Bjork, who teaches economics at Claremont McKenna College, is available for interviews and analysis about financial markets and the U.S. economy.

Members of the civilian space flight simulation team will hold a reunion at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 3, 1998 at the Weingart Leadership Laboratory on the Claremont McKenna College campus, 375 E. Eighth Street in Claremont.

Claremont McKenna College's incoming freshmen and transfer students as well as alumni volunteers will kick off the new school year with a community service project to beautify the campus of Claremont High School from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31. Claremont High is located at 1601 N. Indian Hill Blvd. in Claremont.

Jack L. Stark, who has served as president of Claremont McKenna College for nearly thirty years, will be the keynote speaker at the college's annual convocation at 11 am on Tuesday, September 1. Stark has announced his intention to retire at the end of the academic year and is expected to use this opportunity to launch a campaign to renew a sense of idealism among undergraduates during his final year as president.

The nation's brightest young men and women will be completing their transition from high school to college as the Class of 2002 arrives to enroll at Claremont McKenna College at 9:00 am Thursday, August 27, 1998.

There will be excellent interview and photo opportunities as students arrive, move into dormitories, meet new roommates, and say good-bye to their parents.

David Mason of Virginia and Darryl Wold of Newport Beach, California, have been confirmed by the United States Senate to become members of the Federal Election Commission. The six-member commission runs the agency that regulates campaign finance, enforces election law, and administers public funding of Presidential elections.

Both men are alumni of Claremont McKenna College.

The National Weather Service has violated federal and state laws in the sitting and construction of a Doppler radar tower on Sulphur Mountain in the Upper Ojai Valley in Ventura County, California, according to a new study released by the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College.
