Presidential Search Enters Third Phase of Process

Dear Fellow Members of the CMC Community,
On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee, I wanted to update you on our progress.
As pointed out in our previous communications, our search process consists of three distinct steps: Definition, Discovery, and Selection. With the issuance of our Opportunities and Challenges Profile, we concluded our Definition phase with a document that has resonated with the CMC community and the broader educational community. Next, through our eleven Open Forums and outreach meetings, our Committee's and Isaacson Miller's canvassing efforts, and nominations from the CMC community, we are gratified that the level of interest in the College's presidency has allowed us to create a strong list of candidates. By this measure, the Discovery stage of our search has concluded.
That leaves us with our final stage to complete: Selection. The Committee has commenced a series of interviews and other formal and informal interactions with the candidates, combined with deep reference checking. This is an iterative process that requires the Committee to work collaboratively both within its membership, and with the candidates, in a very deliberate fashion. As our candidates get to know the College better, the Committee, in turn, becomes better acquainted with them. As we suspected, our candidates are very successful in their current roles. Thus, the CMC community's continued respect for the confidentiality of the process has been appreciated by the candidates as well as the Committee.
To date, our process has tracked well, and our timetable has not changed. Our charge from the Board is to have the fifth president of Claremont McKenna College take office July 1, 2013. We will use our remaining time wisely, and greatly appreciate the continued faith of the CMC community and the Board in our work.
