Dean's Message

This is an exciting time for students and faculty at the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance. As you might suspect, Robert Day's generous gift to the College in the fall of 2007 has heightened awareness of CMC in academic circles and among private and public sector employers. It also has generated a number of new initiatives. Among them:

We successfully launched the prestigious undergraduate Robert Day Scholars Program for students who demonstrate outstanding academic qualifications and strong leadership potential. Twenty students were selected last spring and these students, now seniors, will participate in a number of co-curricular and networking activities throughout the year, along with completing coursework in finance, accounting, and organizational psychology.

As part of the Scholars Program, we now offer a Master's degree in Finance, and the inaugural class of students will enter the program in the fall of 2009. This program recruits top graduate students across the country and offers a unique alternative to an MBA.

The School is welcoming six new faculty members coming from prestigious PhD programs at Cornell University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, and University of British Columbia. With the addition of new faculty, our undergraduate elective course offerings are significantly expanded to include coursework ranging from Poverty, Inequality, and Discrimination to Derivatives and Options.

Whether you are a prospective student or faculty member, an alumnus returning to learn more about the School and CMC's network, or a visitor exploring the research and programs at CMC, we welcome your interest and look forward to connecting with you.

We hope you take time to explore the programs and the wide range of activities and resources made available through CMC and the Robert Day School—combined, these create one of the finest educational programs in the world.

Best,

Janet Kiholm Smith
