Guest Speakers and Campus Events

One of the best ways to learn about leadership is to listen to what successful leaders have to say. The Speakers Series brings prominent leaders in business, finance, and government to the school to share their perspectives. These speakers include Claremont McKenna alumni, local leaders, and national figures. Following each lecture, Robert Day Scholars participate in a private Q&A session with the speaker.

Recent speakers at Claremont McKenna have included public figures such as Bill Clinton, Gore Vidal, Bono, and Thomas Friedman as well as top educators, including Richard Thaler (University of Chicago), Andrew Lo (MIT), Josh Lerner (Harvard), and Ken French (Dartmouth).

In addition, the College - in association with its research institutes and centers - hosts academic conferences on campus. These conferences bring together top figures from academia and business leaders from various institutions and organizations to focus on specific topics or themes. Robert Day Scholars are encouraged to attend and participate in these conferences, and the program sets aside funding for students to conduct research and analysis.

Recently, the Financial Economics Institute of Claremont McKenna College hosted conferences titled "The Future of Securities Fraud Litigation" and "The Boundaries of SEC Regulation." The latter resulted in a number of papers published in a special issue of the Journal of Corporate Finance.
