Selection of undergraduate students of the Claremont Colleges to become Robert Day Scholars is based on a combination of academic performance and demonstrated leadership potential.
Academic Excellence
Scholars are, by definition, academically accomplished students. The initial review of applications strongly considers academic classroom performance.
Leadership Potential
Subsequent reviews of applications will seek evidence of strong leadership potential demonstrated on-campus, both in and outside of the classroom, as well as through off-campus activities.
Personal Qualities
The Robert Day Scholars program is designed to be challenging, and to meet these demands students should be independent thinkers with strong analytical skills. Scholars are expected to be able to work in a professional environment. Moreover, all Robert Day Scholars are expected to demonstrate sound judgment and strong ethics. The selection committee takes a holistic approach to make these determinations.
Eligibility
All Claremont College sophomores are eligible to apply, including those studying off-campus. By applying, all applicants commit to completion of academic requirements and participation in leadership development activities during your senior year.
Application Process
On-line applications for members of the Class of 2022 must be completed no later than 12:00pm (noon) on Monday, October 7, 2019. The on-line application requires the following:
- basic biographical information
- upload of current transcript
- upload of current resume
- identification of three references: (1) faculty member who can speak to academic performance and leadership potential demonstrated in the classroom, (2) faculty, staff or other reference who can speak to on-campus leadership outside the classroom and (3) faculty, staff or other reference who can speak to leadership potential demonstrated off-campus. You will be asked to provide contact email addresses for each, but no letters of recommendation are required with the application.
