Jessica Jin

CIEE Prague, Czech Republic

Describe your typical day: My apartment was nearby the huge fortress where classes were held. After class, friends and I would go out to eat and maybe see a show. CIEE paid for shows, games, and even movies.

Favorite food discovered while abroad: Trdelnik—a pastry with cinnamon sugar you can buy from street vendors.

What was your favorite part of the city to visit? Vyšehrad was the fortress complex where the school was. It has grassy areas, a famous graveyard, and even a vineyard. We would hang out there and once stumbled upon a free jazz concert.

What was one highlight of your semester off-campus?
Any time we went to the Meet Factory. It was a really cool art space that had musical shows and often had different art exhibitions.

If you could go back, what would you do differently? I traveled a lot but I wish I had spent more time in Prague.

Advice: Don’t just hang out with CMCers and Americans. I was the only student from CMC at my program and it was great meeting students from other universities. The program did a great job giving us opportunities to meet Czech people. Make sure you take the time to explore Prague.
