Describe your typical day:
I would wake up before my host family and walk to class. After class I would hang out in the city center, go to museums, and explore the city. After dinner I watched ridiculous Mongolian TV with my host family.

Favorite food discovered while abroad:
I had some crazy food while in Mongolia but I think I liked goat the best. I ate a lot of goat.

What was your favorite part of the city to visit?
There were lots of places in the city that seemed kind of out of place. I really liked Beatles square which had a monument to the Beatles. The Monastery was great too, it was the oldest in Mongolia.

What was one highlight of your semester off-campus?
I spent 2+ weeks living with a nomadic herding family. I spent a lot of time on horseback herding animals and spending time with really interesting people. The landscape out there was so dramatic too.

What was one challenge you faced during your semester off-campus?
Mongolia is not for everyone, very few people spoke English and you really needed to be ok with being uncomfortable. It was a total adventure.

It’s a great place to go if you want a real adventure and culturally immersive experience but get used to being outside your comfort zone, it’s unlike anywhere else.
