Emergency Procedures

 

Report Life Threatening Emergencies to Claremont Police Department at 911 from cell phone or 9-911 from a campus extension and call Campus Safety at 909-607-2000 from cell or x7-2000 from campus phone.

Bomb Threats

  1. Ask the caller questions: Where is the bomb? When is the bomb set to go off? What does it look like?
  2. Take notes on everything said and be sure to notice any background noise, voice characteristics, etc.
  3. Evacuate the building.
  4. Report the threat immediately to Campus Safety at ext. 72000 and your building coordinator.

Crime In Progress

  1. DO NOT attempt to approach the criminal.
  2. Call Campus Safety immediately -- ext. 72000.
  3. Make a mental note of the perpetrator and your surroundings, as you will be asked for any descriptions you can provide.

Earthquake

  1. Take cover under a desk or table, protecting as much of your body as possible, especially your head and neck.
  2. Stay away from windows and objects that may fall.
  3. DO NOT leave your building until instructed to do so.
  4. If you are outdoors, stay in an open area away from trees, buildings, and overhead wires.
  5. After shaking stops, evacuate to your designated evacuation area, on the address side of your building, and report to your building coordinator.

Evacuation

  1. Calmly and quietly walk to the nearest exit.
  2. DO NOT use elevators
  3. Report to your designated evacuation site and check in with your building coordinator.
  4. Follow the instructions of your building coordinator or other emergency personnel.

Fire

  1. Activate the closest fire alarm.
  2. Evacuate to the designated evacuation area - on the address side of your building - and report to your building coordinator.
  3. Call ext. 72000 and report the location and nature of the fire.

Lockdown (Outside Threat)

  1. Go to the closest lockable location.
  2. Communicate, once locked down, with authorities.
  3. Remain locked down as long as necessary.
  4. Cooperate with rescuers.
  5. Plan on interviews with authorities after the incident.

Medical

  1. Dial ext. 72000 and report the nature of the illness or injury and the location.
  2. Notify your immediate supervisor or building coordinator.
