On Saturday, August 28, all math faculty and students had a very pleasant get together at the house of prof. Mario Martelli, chair of the Mathematics Department, to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year, to welcome the two new faculty Dr. Cheryl Peterson and Dr. Ulrica Wilson, and to congratulate the students who did research over the summer under the supervision of Prof. Mario Martelli and Prof. Jim Hoste from Pitzer College. Dean Ascher with his wife Barbara and Prof. Emeritus John Ferling with his wife Hannelore attended. Some very young mathematicians came: the two and a half year old son of Jorge Aarao and Leslie Ward and the 18-month old son of Mike and Cynthia O'Neill.
