KLI Co-Sponsoring March 6 Conference When Near is Far and Far is Near: Distance in Leader-Follower Relationships

Registration is now open for the 2010 24th Annual Claremont Symposium on Applied Social Psychology, to be held at Albrecht Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on the Claremont Graduate University campus. The all-day conference, co-organized by Ronald Riggio, Director of the Kravis Leadership Institute at CMC, and Michelle Bligh of Claremont Graduate University, will bring scholars from three continents together to discuss the impact of distancephysical, interpersonal, and socialon organizations, governments, and societies.

The conference is open to students and academics, as well as psychologists seeking continuing education credits.

"When Near is Far and Far is Near: Distance in Leader-Follower Relationships" serves as the Kravis Leadership Institute's 20th annual Kravis-de Roulet Leadership Conference, and is co-sponsored by Claremont Graduate University, the Kravis Leadership Institute, and the Claremont Leadership Roundtable.

Scholars in leader-follower relations intend to address such questions as:

How far can a leader be from his or her followers and retain influence?

Does 21st century technology shrink the distance between leaders and followers, or just fool us into thinking so?

In what ways is the road to leadership still longer for women than for menand where are the shortcuts?

What shrinks or widens the gap between a leader's actions and how they are perceived?

How does leading vast group with many members differ from leading an intimate group?
