Professor Jay Martin Receives Antioch Review Career Prize

Jay Martin, the Edward S. Gould Professor of the Humanities and Government at Claremont McKenna College and Professor of English and American Literature at the Claremont Graduate University, has received the 2003 Award for Distinguished Prose, a national career award for authorship from the Antioch Review.

The Education of John Dewey: A Biography was published by Columbia University Press in 2002. Martin is the author of more than 20 books and 100 articles, including studies of Henry Miller, Nathanael West, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and John Dewey.

Martin, a long-time contributor, was first published in the Antioch Review in 1975. His most recent piece, the 2001 docudrama "Trial Days in Coyoac?n," was drawn from the new Dewey biography. Martin is a practicing psychoanalyst and recipient of numerous major awards, including Rockefeller and Guggenheim fellowships.
