Excitement, progress and success were hallmarks of the fall sports season for CMS Athletics. All five teams finished in the top four of the conference; Men's Water Polo and Men and Women's Cross Country finished as SCIAC Champions. Additionally, Men's Soccer won the SCIAC Tournament to finish as SCIAC Champions. Thirty-seven CMS athletes were selected for All-SCIAC awards, with two athletes recognized as Athlete of the Year in their respective sports. Below are some highlights from the 2010 fall sports season.
Traveled to Seattle in September to compete against the University of Puget Sound and Whitworth, both consistently top teams in the nation
Finished third in the SCIAC behind Cal Lutheran and Occidental
Made their 5th straight appearance in the SCIAC Tournament
Lost to Occidental in the SCIAC Tournament Semifinals due to penalty kicks
Stephanie Chan '11, Laura Hagen '11, Kirsten McAfee '11, Julia Nishioka '12, and Lizzie Van Buskirk '12 were recognized with All-SCIAC honors
Finished 2nd in the SCIAC to Redlands after an loss to Pomona-Pitzer that would have clinched the SCIAC title
Shutout all opponents during home games to go undefeated at home
Defeated Redlands for the second year in a row for the SCIAC Tournament Championship
Traveled to San Antonio, Texas to play UT-Tyler in the first round of the NCAA D3 Tournament, but lost 1-0
Senior Captain Marshall Fisher '11 was honored as the Men's Soccer SCIAC Player of the Year
Michael Nguyentat '11, Joe Swartley '11, David Taylor '13, Harrison Doyle '13, and Zach Doran '13 were named to All-SCIAC teams
Tied for 3rd in the SCIAC, but were edged out of the conference tournament in a three-way tie-breaking procedure
Completed a successful season that included wins over regionally and nationally ranked opponents, such as Occidental College, NYU, Ithaca College and Cal Lutheran
Traveled to Texas for a nationally competitive tournament at Trinity University
Emily Hudson '12 and Taylor Jones '13 were selected for All-SCIAC teams
Head Coach Dianna Graves stepped down at the end of the season for a position as Director of Academic Affairs in the Dean of Faculty's Office at CMC
Assistant Coach Kurt Vlasich will take over next season as the Interim Head Coach
Both teams were SCIAC Champions and qualified for the NCAA Championship for the third year in a row, traveling to Iowa for the competition
Athenas finished 20th at the NCAA Championship and won the West Region
Stags finished 19th at the NCAA Championship and placed 2nd in the West Region
Jennifer Tav? '12 earned All-American honors after placing 7th at NCAAs
Julia Rigby '12, Alison Gushue '12, Laura Wyatt '13, Allison Barnwell '14, and Kerrin Smith '14 earned All-West Region and All-SCIAC honors, while Marnie Hogue '13 and Adele Eslinger '14 were also represented on All-SCIAC teams
Kris Brown '11, Brian Kopczynski '11, Georgi Dinolov '11, Bryan Chow '12, and Brian Sutter '13 earned All-West Region and All-SCIAC honors; Rafer Dannenhauer '13 earned All-West Region honors, and Kramer Straube '11 and Bennett Naden '13 and Quinn Chasan '13 earned All-SCIAC honors
Coach John Goldhammer was named the Division III West Region Women's Coach of the Year
Played through a rigorous schedule to gain experience, which allowed them to have a successful SCIAC season
Entered the SCIAC Tournament seeded 4th and defeated top-seeded Redlands in the semifinals
Defeated Whittier College in the finals of the SCIAC Tournament to win the championship for the first time in 12 years
Competed in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championship at Santa Clara, finishing 5th in the 2010 WWPA Records
Brian Chong '12 was named SCIAC Player of the Year, while Sean Wasserman '11, Brian Baier '13, and Huston Middlesworth '13 were named to All-SCIAC teams
Finished with an overall record of 7-2, the second best in CMS history
Defeated Whittier College in the final seconds with a 32-yard field goal after a competitive game at Homecoming
Won their fourth straight Peace Pipe in a one-point overtime victory over Pomona-Pitzer, after stopping P-P from completing a two-point conversion on their final play
Finished 3rd in the SCIAC the best finish since 2003
Broke the school record set in 2002 for points scored in a season with 268 and tied the record for most touchdowns with 36
Sam Jolly '12, Ed Mills '12 and Ben Salzman '12 were recognized with All-SCIAC honors
All the hard work put in by athletes and coaches from our fall teams allowed for a fun, exhilarating and accomplished season. Each team has set itself up for even more success next year. Congratulations to all our fall athletes!
