The Robert Day School of Economics and Finance Announces Advisory Board

The Robert Day School of Economics and Finance at Claremont McKenna College announces the formation of The Robert Day School Board of Advisors. The 10-member advisory committee, which includes nine CMC alumni as well as the parent of a current Claremont McKenna student, is led by Chairman Peter Barker '70 P'01, Chairman (California), JP Morgan Chase & Co., and a retired partner, Goldman, Sachs & Co.

"We are fortunate to have such a stellar and committed advisory board," says Dean of The Robert Day School Janet Kiholm Smith. "They have proven invaluable as we are embarking on many new initiatives at the RDS, including launching of the master's program and the undergraduate Robert Day Scholars Program. The faculty looks forward to developing a strong working relationship with the board members. I am confident that our students will benefit greatly from their counsel and involvement with the School."

Along with Chairman Barker, the newly selected board includes Todd Barker '01, Managing Director, Global Equities Primary Strategies, Citadel Investment Group; Gary Birkenbeuel '80, partner at Ernst & Young; Jose Campos '91, partner, Deloitte & Touche; Alan M. Delsman '68, Deutsche Bank AG, New York, deputy head of Credit Risk Management-Global Investment Bank, Corporates; Alan Heuberger '96, portfolio manager, Cascade Investment, LLC; Andrew J. Kaiser P'13, Chief Operating Officer,
Goldman Sachs Bank USA, New York; I. Joseph Massoud '89, Chief Executive Officer, Compass Diversified Holdings; Thomas B. Neff '76, founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, FibroGen, Inc., San Francisco; and John R. Shrewsberry '87, Executive Vice President, Group Head, Securities and Investment Group, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.

A mix of high profile, seasoned executives as well as more junior members with strong career trajectories and leadership skills, the Board members share a passion for higher education, as well as an interest in stimulating and supporting important strategic initiatives such as outreach, globalization, and co-curricular programs designed to enhance student leadership skills, Smith notes. The membership also is committed to the goals of providing innovative counsel, creating job opportunities for students, and generally raising the profile of the School, its programs, and research activities, she said.

"The Robert Day School is fortunate to have strong leadership from the beginning, first by the visionary founding of the School by Robert Day, then by Janet Smith as dean, and now this distinguished board of advisors," adds CMC President Pamela Gann. "Chaired by Peter Barker, CMC alumnus and former chairman of the College's Board of Trustees, these individuals bring a breadth of knowledge and practical experience that will be tremendous assets to both RDS and its students."

Board membership is by invitation only and includes a renewable term of service.
