Preventing and Addressing Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Violence

Claremont McKenna College strives to maintain an environment for students, faculty, and staff that is free of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. All members of the College community should be aware that the College is prepared to take prompt remedial action to prevent and address such behavior and remedy its effects.

CMC's sexual harassment and misconduct policies are included within the College's comprehensive discrimination and harassment policy: Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy.

The grievance procedures that the College will follow to respond to alleged sexual discrimination and harassment, including sexual violence, involving students, staff and third parties can be found here: Civil Rights Grievance Procedures.

CMC's procedures for responding to sex discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual violence complaints involving faculty members can be found here: Procedures for Student and Faculty Grievances Against Faculty Members and for Faculty Grievances Against Academic Administrators.

For comprehensive information about resources and options for responding to sexual misconduct, please visit the Claremont Colleges' sexual misconduct resources website.

August 2015

Dear CMC Campus Community:

As I noted in my update on the Personal and Social Responsibility Initiative (PSR), this past summer we dedicated time and effort to improve key areas of policy, particularly in the area of Title IX and sexual assault and student conduct procedures. The administration committee will be continuing its work this fall on policy as it applies to faculty.

We endeavor to protect all students, faculty, staff, and other members of our community from acts of discrimination, harassment, and assault, while reinforcing values of fundamental fairness to all parties. Here we also are committed to harmonizing our policies with those of The Claremont Colleges, complying with federal and state law, and fulfilling our special CMC mission.

I want to be sure you have online access to the current policies in effect at CMC. Going forward, we are committed to the ongoing review and improvement of these policies and procedures, and look forward to the opportunity to discuss them in greater depth.

Very best,
