Law Enforcement Personnel on Campus
In a Non-Emergency Situation
Steps to take if law enforcement personnel ask for information or access to campus:
- EXPLAIN that TCCS Campus Safety is responsible for handling all interactions with law enforcement personnel and you have been instructed to contact them to assist.
- CALL TCCS Campus Safety Dispatch at 909-607-2000 to advise that law enforcement personnel are on CMC’s Campus, provide the exact location, and request an officer to respond to the location to escort them to Campus Safety to address the situation. If you are able to, remain with them until Campus Safety arrives.
- IF a warrant or subpoena is presented, do not attempt to determine the validity of the document. TCCS Campus Safety and CMC’s General Counsel will do so.
- DO NOT voluntarily provide any information (in-person or by telephone) or voluntarily provide access to any portion of campus.
- DO NOT physically interfere or block law enforcement personnel, even if they are refusing to follow your directions and even if it appears they are acting without consent or in excess of their authority.
In an Emergency Situation
Steps to take if law enforcement personnel indicate they are responding to an emergency situation:
- DO NOT interfere with or block law enforcement personnel if an emergency situation has been indicated.
- IF you are ordered to do something within your capacity (e.g. move out of the way, provide directions), you must immediately comply.
- IF you are ordered to provide access to any part of campus and are able to do so, you must immediately comply. After providing access, immediately contact Campus Safety Dispatch at 909-607-2000 and ask them to send a CMC Public Safety Officer to the location.
If Immigration Officials Detain or Arrest a CMC Community Member
- If a CMC Community Member is taken into custody by an Immigration Official, CMC’s Executive Director of Public Safety will immediately provide notice to the Community Member’s emergency contact.
- If an undocumented student is detained, deported or unable to attend classes/fulfill academic requirements as a result of immigration enforcement activities, pursuant to state law CMC will make all reasonable and legal efforts to assist the student in remaining eligible for financial aid, fellowship stipends, funding for research/projects, housing, or any other benefits awarded or received related to attendance at CMC. CMC will also permit the student to re-enroll when the student is able to do so.
