Wendy Lower's Hitler's Furies made its U.S. debut in October 2013. A finalist for the 2013 National Book Award for nonfiction, the book is being translated into 12 languages. The book reveals that not only were women complicit in the participation of the Holocaust, but direct killers.
If you didn’t happen to see it, the Claremont Courier featured Holocaust scholar Wendy Lower in its special, annual section Focus: Unique Women in Claremont, profiling “women newsmakers in the Claremont area.” The inclusion of Lower focuses on the research that became Hitler's Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields, Lower's 2013 book that was nominated for a National Book Award.
Writes Courier reporter Sarah Torribio: “Women have long been viewed as the gentler sex, more inclined to nurture than to wage war.” Lower’s new book, she says, “turns that notion on its head.”
