Claremont rugby teams place second at championships

Both the Claremont Foxes women's rugby club and the Claremont Lions men's rugby club placed second at their respective championship tournaments this spring.

Women's Update
The Foxes fell to Tulane University 31-14 in the championship match of the the USA Rugby Division II Spring College Championship final on May 5 at Cal State Fullerton.

Claremont defeated Salisbury University (Maryland) 44-27 in the semifinals on May 4.

Men's Update
The Lions defeated Salve Regina University, 50-33, in the semifinals on April 27. In the national championship match, the Lions fell to Iowa Central Community College, 64-11.

Over the last four seasons in 15s competition, the Lions have finished fifth, second, first, and second at the NSCRO National Championships.

“It’s an unbelievable accomplishment and we need to be prepared to work hard to earn a spot in the final in 2019, as that’s where we intend to be,” head coach Jeremy Ognall told the team after the championship match.
