CMC ranked ninth in U.S. News Best National Liberal Arts Colleges

Claremont McKenna College placed ninth in the 2019 U.S. News ranking of national liberal arts colleges.

CMC’s overall score of 91 was one point behind the four colleges tied for fifth place: Bowdoin, Carleton, Middlebury, and Pomona. U.S. News bundles schools with tied scores, and subsequent schools are ranked based on the number of schools ahead of them rather than their relative point standing.

This month, CMC also was ranked sixth among liberal arts colleges by the Wall Street Journal.

CMC believes in a careful approach to interpreting rankings. We believe we should look at rankings through a thoughtful analytical perspective to avoid two alternative negative tendencies. We should not allow rankings to define who we are or what we value, and we should not pretend that they do not matter at all.
