Eberstadt to Discuss Global Gender Imbalance; Salvatori Center Speaker

Nicholas Eberstadt, the Henry Wendt Scholar in Political Economy at the American Enterprise Institute, will present a discussion on The Global War Against Baby Girls from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the Bauer Forum. The event is free and open to the public.

Eberstadt's lecture, sponsored by the Salvatori Center for the Study of Individual Freedom in the Modern World, will present a worldwide demographic review of the causes and possible consequences of the trend toward rising "sex ratios at birth"the emergence of dramatic gender imbalances favoring boys at the expense of girls. While such trends frequently have been noted in China, they are starting to appear in parts of Latin America and Europe, and sub-populations within the U.S.

Eberstadt received his Ph.D. in political economy and government from Harvard University, where he was a visiting Fellow at its Center for Population and Development Studies, from 1980 to 2002.
