Lance Suzuki '93 Wins NASDAQ Regional Award for Teaching

Lance Suzuki '93 has been named the 2005 regional/West winner for the NASDAQ National Teaching Awards Competition, an event fostering economic literacy in schools by recognizing middle school and high school teachers who are helping students to think, make sound, informed decisions, and function well in the economy.

Suzuki, a double-major in government and economics during his time at CMC, received $10,000 for his project, What Does $2 Trillion Buy?

"Although I would like to take all the credit for the award," says Suzuki, a teacher at Maryknoll High School in Honolulu, "it would not have been possible without the support of my administration, the energy of my students, and the model set by my former professors. The faculty that I had while at CMC shares as much responsibility as anyone else for this honor."

As one of five regional winners in a division that included Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, Suzuki now will compete for the NASDAQ competition's $15,000 Grand National Award in New York in April.
