MTV to Invade Claremont Mckenna College

The MTV College Invasion Tour featuring hip-hop groups Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, and Black Eyed Peas will descend on Bridges Auditorium at the Claremont Colleges on Friday, November 3, 2000 starting at 7:00 p.m.

The trek will mark Wyclef's first extensive U.S. tour behind his recently released second solo effort, "The Ecleftic - 2 Sides II A Book." For De La Soul, the tour gives the group the opportunity to promote its "Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump," while Black Eyed Peas will get the chance to drum up support for its "Bridging The Gap."

"Hip-hop music is getting bigger and bigger on campus as students get tired of the boy bands," noted student body president Josh Walter. "Everybody likes to go out to dance and the music is really intelligent. It bridges cultures while being really entertaining."

Walter is a senior government / psychology major from Mukilteo, Washington.

For Claremont McKenna College students, attracting this tour is big news. The Claremont Colleges is among the smallest venues for this nationwide tour. The MTV tour stops at campuses like Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky, University of California, Irvine, San Jose State University, and Kent State.

Tickets are on sale for $35 through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com). Seating is limited.
