The Sports Bowl at the Roberts Campus
The Sports Bowl at the Roberts Campus, a new set of state-of-the-art facilities and playing fields for CMS Athletics, officially opened during the 2026-27 fall semester to the CMC community.
Designed by world-renowned architects BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, who also worked on the award-winning Robert Day Sciences Center, the Sports Bowl further reflects the excellence and ambition demonstrated by CMS scholar-leader-athletes both in competition and inside the classroom. Following the blueprint of two of CMC’s finest multi-use examples, Roberts Pavilion and the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, the Sports Bowl is a bold, innovative investment in championship-caliber facilities for the entire campus to use and enjoy.
Part of The Roberts Campus master plan announcement in 2022, the addition of the Robert Day Sciences Center, along with the reorientation of various athletic fields in the Sports Bowl, will open up spaces for future improvements to the CMC campus. This includes new academic facilities, pathways and gathering spaces, and additional campus housing opportunities—Roberts Campus projects made possible through the next decade by a generous $140 million gift from CMC Trustee George Roberts ’66 P’93. In total, the Roberts Campus doubles the overall CMC footprint to over 150 acres.
Phase One
The Sports Bowl’s Phase One completion includes:
Patrick G. Rogan Stadium
Patrick G. Rogan Stadium, which seats 1,211, is the new home for football, lacrosse, and track and field. It includes a lighted multiuse field, a track venue, a video scoreboard, a press box, and field houses with locker rooms, restrooms, showers, and common spaces.
Arce and Athenas Fields
Arce Field, which seats 186, is the new home for baseball and includes a lighted field, two bullpens, tension netting, the Rolla Family Scoreboard, and four buildings. Athenas Field, the new home for softball, includes similar amenities and seating capacity.
Golf Training Center
The new golf center includes an outdoor short game practice area and an Indoor Golf Performance Lab with three Trackman hitting bays, the Rose Family Putting Lab, and a video review space. All surfaces also use state-of-the-art turf fields.
Nakasone Field
Nakasone Field, on campus next to Roberts Pavilion, is the new home for women’s and men’s soccer. Sized to meet NCAA soccer field specifications, its natural turf features are similar to those at major pro and college venues across the country.
The Arcade
A new 20-foot wide covered walking passage, with intricate design elements connected to the Robert Day Sciences Center, runs under Claremont Boulevard to connect the main campus. The Arcade leads to a new two-level parking structure that adds 391 stalls for CMC faculty, staff, students, and visitors. There is also a 138-stall parking lot for use by Pitzer College.
CMC Community Spaces
Several designated spaces are available for CMC community recreation, including Abbott Brown Family Central Plaza, a courtyard area between the baseball and softball fields; the Stadium Plaza, a gathering area southwest of Rogan Stadium; numerous walkable pathways; and additional environmentally supportive landscapes. The Sports Bowl also has several intentional sustainability features, with landscape plantings consisting of locally indigenous native plant species.
Public Safety, ROTC, and Facilities Services
Also on the horizon: Relocation of CMC’s Public Safety & Emergency Management department in the lower level of the parking structure, a home for the CMC ROTC program located in the east field house, and a Facilities Service Yard for groundskeeping and maintenance on the eastern edge of the Sports Bowl.
Safety Enhancements
A signalized intersection at Ninth Street and Claremont Boulevard creates a safe and convenient pedestrian path for travel. New sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and improved median and parkway landscaping and fencing are in the process of being installed from Sixth Street to Foothill Boulevard. Claremont Boulevard will also be resurfaced with new LED streetlights.
