The 2025-2026 academic year is quickly coming to an end. The following information covers hall closings and other relevant information ahead of the official hall closing on May 17 at 12:00pm. If you have any questions that are not answered on this website, please email [email protected].
24-Hour Quiet Period
A 24-hour quiet period begins Wednesday, May 6 at 11:59pm. This policy includes the residents of the CMC Apartments and the Kendry Apartments. While you may have finished your coursework and exams, there are many others who will still be studying. Please extend to them the same courtesy that you would appreciate if you were still studying.
Check-Out Procedures
All students, including graduating seniors, must move out of the residence halls, Kendry Apartments, and CMC Apartments by Sunday, May 17, by 12:00pm (noon). Please keep this deadline in mind as you arrange transportation from campus. Students who are still in the residence halls, CMC Apartments, or Kendry Apartments will be fined $50 per half hour beyond 12:00pm. Only approved extended stay/summer residents are permitted to remain in their room until the changeover to summer housing. There are no other exceptions. Remember: checking out is the last thing you do prior to departing campus. You cannot check-out and then return to your room.
There are two options for check-out.
Request an escorted check-out
An RA or Residential Life Staff Member will walk through your room with you and review the space. If you submitted an RCR (Room Condition Report), the notes from that will be considered. If there is potential for charges (garbage or physical damage to room, personal items left behind, non-College owned furniture, etc.) the RA or Staff Member will alert you and make note of it. The final assessment of damages will be made by the Facilities Department as outlined below.
The on-call RAs will be available for escorted check-outs from 5:00pm-10:00pm on weekdays and 9:00am-9:00pm on weekends beginning Thursday, May 7. Escorted check-outs before May 7 or outside of those hours are not guaranteed and may be directed to Express check-outs. There will be no escorted check-outs on Saturday, May 16 or Sunday, May 17. The escorted check-out is the last step prior to departing your room, so be sure to call the RA Duty phone when you are ready to depart. You will be expected to depart your room/campus immediately following your check-out. An RA will come to your room within 30 minutes of your call. The escorted check-out should take less than 10 minutes. If you need to request an escorted check-out between 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday, you should email [email protected] to schedule it in advance of your departure date.
Express check-out option: If you do not want to or if your departure time does not allow for an escorted check-out with an RA, you can choose this option by following the link to the side panel (three lines) on the home page of your StarRez portal and selecting "Express Check-Out": Link to StarRez Portal. You will need to complete the form immediately prior to your departure. Please note - By choosing to do an express check-out, you forfeit the ability to appeal dorm damage charges.
Keys
All students living in spaces with physical keys (the CMC Apartments or Kendry Apartments) need to turn in their room keys before leaving for the summer.
If you live in the CMC Apartments, use the following procedure for check-out:
Obtain a key envelope in the Story House Mailroom.
Complete the information on the front of the envelope, place your room key inside, and seal the envelope.
Return your key to Story House during business hours or to the drop box by the south door entrance to Story House. The re-keying charge for room keys not turned in by Sunday, May 17 is $150.00.
If you live in the Kendry Apartments, use the following procedure for check-out:
Obtain a key envelope in the Story House Mailroom or from your RA.
Complete the information on the front of the envelope, place your room key inside, and seal the envelope.
Return your key to a Kendry RA, Lyn Hughes in DOS, or the Assistant Dean of Residential Life, Luke Rufenacht, before you leave campus. The re-keying charge for room keys not turned in by Sunday, May 17 is $150.00.
Parking Cards
All students issued parking cards must return them prior to departure. Drop boxes will be available in the Bauer and 6th & Mills parking lots before the start of finals for easy return. Alternatively, cards may be returned directly to Lyn Hughes in Heggblade. Failure to return your parking card will result in a replacement fee of $15.00, and the card will be deactivated.
Student ID Card
Students use the same ID card year to year. If you lose your card while you are away, a duplicate card will be issued at a cost of $15.00.
Room Inspections
Facilities staff and Residential Life will be inspecting each student room and student common areas. Damages and missing property will be assessed at that time. The staff will photograph the damages or excessive cleaning needs in each room, and that documentation will be the official record of the condition of the dorm rooms, the common areas of the dorms, and the CMC Apartments as of the end of the Spring 2026 semester. The inspection will take place during the days following Commencement. Results of these inspections will be compared against the Room Condition Report (RCR) for each student. If you failed to complete an RCR, you will be held accountable for the condition of the room as is at check-out. No individuals except Residential Life and Facilities staff will have access to the residence halls and the Student Apartments until the inspection is complete, so there will be no changes in the condition of the residence halls and Student Apartments between the time students leave and the time of the inspection. Damage bills and emails will be sent out at the end of May/beginning of June, so be sure to check your CMC email after the semester ends.
Securing Rooms
Students are responsible for locking their rooms (including bathroom doors to their rooms in North Quad) and securing their windows before leaving campus. Please also ensure that your blinds or curtains are fully drawn.
Dumpsters and Cleaning
Please keep your hallways free from debris and leave your room clean to show respect for our Facilities staff and in order to avoid cleaning charges. Your building attendant can provide additional trash and recycling bags to you. Students will be charged if excessive cleaning is needed in their rooms. Please bring all trash to the dumpsters, remembering to completely empty your refrigerator. Failure to remove your items to the dumpsters will result in additional charges. Please refer to the Damage Cost Guidelines for an idea of approximate charges. There will be dumpsters in several locations around campus to dispose of your trash. Two will be located at the CMC Apartments, two will be west of South Quad towers, one between Beckett and Crown, one between Crown and Marks, and one in-between Wohlford and Boswell.
Furniture
Be sure that all of your assigned furniture is in your room when you leave (except for items you had removed by Facilities with a work order request). If pieces are missing from your room, you will be billed for moving or replacement costs. All lounge furniture must be returned to its correct location by the end of the semester. Any lounge furniture determined to be missing from the lounges will be charged to the residents of the room, suite, floor, or dorm. Facilities staff will be picking up the plastic patio chairs during the week following commencement.
Donating Items
Each residence hall lounge will have bins for donated items (clothing/shoes, household items, books), chemicals to be disposed, and electronics. Items for donation should be clean and in good condition. These items will be collected and donated to local and international charities this summer. Do not leave these items in your room, as that will result in fees assessed to your student account. For those of you with textbooks that you will not be using in the future, please consider donating them to the CARE Center in Heggblade. We need course textbooks that are in good condition. We are not accepting magazines, testing prep books, or cookbooks, etc. The donated textbooks will benefit the students that follow in your footsteps. There will be donation boxes from May 11 – May 15 on the second floor of Heggblade.
Anyone planning to remain on campus for the Commencement ceremony
Refrain from playing music and moving out of the residence halls during the ceremony.
Specifically, move-outs are not permitted anywhere on campus Saturday, May 16 between 1:30-4:30pm The post-Commencement reception will be taking place on Parents Field.
You must be respectful of other students who are still completing coursework and exams.

Collins, The Hub, and Daybreak Cafe
The meal plan ends on Friday May 15 with lunch. The Hub will be open on Friday, May 15 until 10:00pm. The Hub will also be open from 10:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, May 16 for credit card use only. The Daybreak Cafe will close for the semester on Friday, May 15 at 8:00pm. Claremont Cash: Those students who do not plan to return to CMC (graduates and those taking a withdrawal from the College) should consider cashing out any balance they have in Claremont Cash. To request a refund of the balance on your card you can either go to the Claremont Card Center in Honnold Library or submit a Refund Request online.
Summer Storage
There is no on-campus storage for students' belongings during the summer. We recommend that you contact a local storage facility for short-term storage. Any items left in storage areas in College buildings will be discarded. Instructions for reserving a parking space for pod storage for Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 were sent previously by Lyn Hughes.
Bicycles and Bike Shop Info
The Bike Shop will close for the semester on Friday, May 8. All rented bikes/boards must be returned by May 2 at noon at the Bubble location. If you are late to return a bike/board, you will be charged late and/or lost bike/board fees. To register to store your bike or board for the summer, please use this form (https://forms.gle/9jg2Y95Jg1b4VRh38). If your bike or board is left on campus without being registered, it will be collected and donated.
Cars and Motorcycles
Cars and motorcycles left on campus over the summer must be parked at the 6th & Mills lot. All other lots will be unavailable for summer car parking. No vehicles are permitted to be stored anywhere other than the 6th & Mills lot. Vehicles left in other campus parking lots will be towed at the owner’s expense. The College is not liable for any loss, theft, or damage to cars and motorcycles left on campus over the summer. You may arrange to leave your keys with Lyn Hughes ([email protected]) in the Dean of Students Office, in case your car needs to be moved for any reason.
