Dorismar Cuevas ’25 spent the summer immersed in asset management. As part of the Girls Who Invest 10-week summer program, she learned about finance and investment at the Wharton School and interned with Morgan Stanley’s Global Investment Office in New York. She came back inspired to pursue a career in wealth management.

“One of the highlights was how stimulating it was,” said Cuevas, who worked with the firm’s Market Research and Strategy team. “There’s so much new information all the time. There’s a lot of discussion about what we’re reading, the macro stuff or policies that effect the economy. I enjoyed the conversations and how everyone is encouraged to never stop learning.”

Cuevas, who is an International Relations major, heard about Girls Who Invest through her involvement as a first-year student with Smart Woman Securities, which focuses on education, exposure to industry professionals, and real-world financial experience. Extracurricular learning opportunities like these are part of the reason Cuevas chose to attend CMC.

She has also been impressed by the support she’s had to explore career options, including professional development assistance and summer internship funds two years in a row from the Soll Center for Student Opportunity.

Touring CMC as a high school student, Cuevas was hooked by the opportunities, resources, student organizations, and strong community. “I fell in love with the environment, everything about it was just amazing.”

Once she was on campus, she gravitated to 1Gen, a support group for first-generation students. Last year, she served as director of marketing and she looks forward to becoming a mentor. “It’s a tight-knit organization where all the students know each other and are so helpful, sharing input and resources and encouragement. It’s helped me through my whole experience, and I’m super grateful for that.”

She also sought out work with the Young Invincibles, a nonprofit whose mission is to encourage young adults to be more politically active. “I found them on LinkedIn, and I applied because I was interested in advocacy and being engaged in my community, but I didn’t know where to start.” She attended workshops twice a week, learning about key issues like health care, higher education accessibility, and economic security, as well as how to engage in advocacy. She now serves on the group’s Youth Advisory Board.

Cuevas particularly enjoyed Professor Jessica Zarkin’s classes in Mexican Government and Politics and Latin American Politics. “What I learned in those classes really increased my passion for Mexican and Latin American politics and foreign affairs, and it played a role in my internship,” she said. “My knowledge or my passion for international politics, especially in Latin America, played a role in my work as I focused on those topics a little bit.”

Meanwhile, Cuevas is already excited for next summer’s internship, where she will continue in a direction with a bright future: “I’m thankful I’ll be at Morgan Stanley again!”
