Resources

CMC Public Safety officers and Emergency Management staff are trained in emergency response including first aid, threat assessment, de-escalation and management of aggressive behavior tactics, and external threat response. This training is conducted in close collaboration with the Claremont Colleges Campus Safety Department, local law enforcement, and public and private emergency response organizations.

Emergency Phones

CMC has installed 56 emergency phones throughout the campus. Phones are located in parking lots, elevators, residence halls, administrative and classroom buildings, and along common walkways. These phones provide direct voice communications to dispatchers who can direct immediate assistance to your location.

Fire Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers are located throughout CMC’s campus, on buildings, near egress paths, corridors and adjacent to areas where readily accessible equipment is vital to CMC’s overall safety plan. Different types of fire extinguishers are placed according to the area’s intended use, and are inspected monthly by CMC staff and yearly by outside certified vendors, ensuring compliance with NFPA 10.

Defibrillator Locations

Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) are emergency medical devices used when a person is experiencing cardiac arrest, delivering an electric shock designed to return the heart to its normal rhythm. AEDs are an important foundational component of basic first aid. Multiple training venues are consistently offered locally by the American Heart Association and Red Cross, and periodically certifications are offered through CMS Athletics and the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.

First Aid Kits

Fully stocked first aid boxes are distributed throughout campus in set locations and to instructing faculty. CMC Public Safety officers carry kits on their person and within their vehicles, as do building safety coordinators and resident assistants. These resources are maintained by the Emergency Management team as needed.

Building Safety Coordinators

Building safety coordinators act as liaisons between building occupants and various campus departments for safety and operational matters. They play a crucial role in emergency preparedness, building maintenance, and ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

Report A Concern

CMC is committed to providing a safe living, learning, and working environment where our community members can thrive. As a community dedicated to responsible leadership, we place a high value on ethical behavior, individual responsibility, and personal integrity. If a non-emergency incident occurs, whether involving a community member or someone else, please report it to the appropriate office right away.

Crime Reporting

The CMC Dean of Students Office, in consultation with public safety authorities at CMC and across the Claremont Colleges, as well as the Office of the General Counsel, prepares the Annual Security Report & Disclosure of Crime Statistics in compliance with the Clery Act.

The Claremont Colleges Campus Safety Department maintains a log of all criminal incidents reported within the last 60 days, which is available on the TCC Campus Safety website.
