International Students: Orientation

Fall 2021

Welcome to the CMC International Community! We are excited to meet all of our new international students this fall at New International Student Orientation.

Our international student community at CMC is made up of over 220 individuals (about 15-17% of the entire student population) who have spent all or a significant part of their lives outside of the United States before coming to Claremont. New International Student Orientation is designed specifically for supporting these students in their transition to college in the United States. By the end of the program, our hope is for international students to feel prepared and supported as they begin their journey at CMC.

Are you ready to enter the U.S. this fall? Do you know what documents to carry with you when entering the U.S.? Want to meet other international students across the 5Cs? International Family Session with the Dean Of Students Office *
Session #1: Tuesday, July 27 (6:00 PM - 7:15 PM Pacific)
Session #2: Friday, July 30 (8:00 AM - 9: 15 AM Pacific)

Please visit the CMC International Parent & Family Orientation Page to register for this event.

We recognize that it is important for our international families to know that there are people on campus who will look after their students while they are studying so far away from home. The Dean of Students (DOS) office offers extensive support services to students at CMC, including International Student Services, Academic Success, Health & Well-being, Accessibility Services, Mental Health & Case Management, Student Activities, Residential Life, and Diversity & Inclusion. During this virtual session, attendees will meet members of the DOS team and learn how students can use DOS throughout their time at CMC. The session will also cover an introduction to accessing healthcare in the United States. Attendees will have the opportunities to ask questions to the DOS staff during the final portion of the session.

Maintaining Your Legal Status as an International Student (required for all F-1 students)*
Session #1: Tuesday, August 3 (6:00 PM - 7:15 PM Pacific) Register Here
Session #2: Friday, August 6 (8:00 AM - 9: 15 AM Pacific) Register Here

As a new international student, U.S. student visa regulations can be overwhelming and confusing. During this session, Chrystal Orozco (Interim Director of International Student Services and CMC's PDSO) will discuss the most important things to know about maintaining your F-1 status. Topics addressed will include enrollment requirements, eligibility for off-campus internships, travel within and outside of the US, and more.

Note: Students who will not hold F-1 status while studying in the U.S. are not required to attend this session.

* Session is offered at two different times to accommodate for time zones. Session content will be identical for both.

** A recording of this session will be shared for those who are unable to attend.

On-Campus Sessions

The in-person portion of New International Student Orientation will take place on August 20 and August 21. A detailed schedule will be shared later this summer.

New International Student Arrival & Move-In

New international students in the class of 2025, class of 2024, and transfer cohort are expected to arrive on campus early and to attend two days of New International Student Orientation programming prior to the Welcome Orientation Adventure (WOA) trips and New Student Orientation programs for all students.

Dates to arrive on campus and move-in are dependent upon your vaccination status.
It is important that all international students complete the International Student Arrival Plan Form as soon as they have finalized their arrival & vaccination plans. The deadline to submit the form is July 25, 2021 at 11:59 PM Pacific. Please read on for the specific arrival dates and current travel requirements.

Arrival on Campus for Fully Vaccinated International Students: August 19
New international students who are fully vaccinated prior to travel, are expected to arrive on campus by 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, to move in and be ready to participate in CMC’s international student orientation program on August 20 and 21.

Arrival on Campus for Quarantine for Unvaccinated Students: August 9 or 10
International students who are unable to obtain vaccinations in their home location may request to arrive on campus by 5:00 PM on either Monday, August 9, or Tuesday, August 10, to allow enough time for 7 days of quarantine. The Dean of Student office will work with students upon arrival to get vaccinated in Claremont and receive their post-travel covid test.

For more information about the student vaccine mandate, please view the Student and Family FAQs on the CMCReturns website.  If you have any questions, please contact Chrystal Orozco (

Transportation from Airport to Campus

Students are expected to arrange their own transportation from the airport to campus. The closest airports to campus are Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Ontario International Airport (ONT) airports. LAX is located about 50 miles/80 km from Claremont and offers the most flights. ONT is a small airport conveniently located about 10 miles/16 km from Claremont. Below are the most commonly used options for getting to campus from LAX and Ontario airports.

Rideshare Apps
Rideshare companies, such as Lyft or Uber, offer affordable and convenient transportation services from the airport to Claremont. Download the applications to your mobile electronic device to create an account and reserve your transportation service.

Each airport has a “Ground Transportation” area where taxis are available for hire.

Shared Shuttle Services
Generally, shared ride van services are very convenient. They provide door-to-door service to and from the airport.

For drop-off locations, please visit our Move-In Day page.
