FAQs

How do I sign up?

Events open for registration on a rolling basis every week—typically on Thursdays at noon—over the course of the semester. Please sign up using the “Register for this event” button. This will register you for the reception and meal. It will also guarantee you a seat in Eggert Dining Room for the presentation.
Important note: Events open first to CMC students, faculty, and staff. Depending on the number of sign-ups, the events subsequently open for the other Claremont College students, faculty, and staff.

How do I get a seat at the head table?

The head table—where students are seated with the evening speaker and two Ath Fellows—is reserved for students only and is a special opportunity for CMC students to meet distinguished guests. If you wish to sit at the head table—and we encourage everyone to do so occasionally—you must sign up when registering for the event in the pop-up window that confirms your registration.

What if I am not on a meal plan?

For CMCers—and other 5C students—not on a meal plan, there is no chargefor meals at the Ath. There is no charge for faculty and staff; moreover, faculty and staff can bring one additional guest at no charge.

What is the timing for the events?

The reception for the evening program kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Weather and daylight permitting, the receptions are held outside on the North Ath Patio (across from the Hub). Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m.; the dinner and the talk/presentation are held indoors in the Eggert Dining Room.

For lunch events, lunch is served at noon and the presentation begins at 12:30 p.m. Lunch events conclude by 1:15 p.m.

How do I cancel my registration?

We understand that circumstances and plans change. If you must cancel a registration, please do so promptly so we can accommodate another individual in your place. We have a generous cancellation policy: You may cancel meal reservations until 9 a.m. the morning of the event. Please cancel on your individual CMC profile page.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

If you have dietary preferences or restrictions, please complete the online profile form accordingly. Whether you are new or returning, this form will generate automatically the first time you register for an Ath event this year and the form cannot be bypassed. You can edit your preferences at any time.

What if I only want to come to the talk (but not the meal)?

Reservations generally are not required to attend the presentation only, which begin immediately after the meal concludes—at 6:45 p.m. (12:30 p.m. for lunch programs). General seating is available beginning at 6:30 p.m. We have limited general seating, so please plan accordingly.

What are the attire guidelines?

Only for evening/dinner events, we request that guests refrain from wearing athletic shorts, sweatpants, blue jeans, or graphic T-shirts at evening speaker events. We require footwear (any kind) at all times.

Students may contact the Dean of Students Office at deanofstudents@cmc.edu or the Athenaeum at athenaeum@cmc.edu with any questions about attire guidelines.
