Summer Housing Information 2016
Summer housing will be available this summer at the Student Apartments in buildings 671 and 681. Priority for summer housing will be given to current CMC students, followed by recent CMC graduates, followed by non-CMC students. Summer housing is available to students who will be working on campus, conducting research, working in the area, or simply wishing to live on campus.
Because summer housing is limited, it will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, fill out this Summer Housing Application. The application is due on Monday, April 18. All summer housing will be in Apartments 671 and 681. You can request up to 3 apartment-mates. We encourage you to coordinate and communicate your apartment-mate requests with all students involved. You may only be listed on one set of preferences for apartment-mates. If you are listed in multiple groups for preferred roommates, some of those preferences will not be met. We will communicate your summer housing assignment – including the specific apartment and your apartment-mates – the week of April 25.
Dates & Apartment Information
Summer housing begins on Friday, May 20, at 1 p.m. You must check-in at Story House between 1-4 p.m. to receive ID card access to your apartment and the metal key to your room. If you are arriving at a later date, please note that you can only check-in at Story House during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. You will not be able to arrive and move in to an apartment outside of these days and times (i.e. Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). Please keep these check-in dates in mind when you plan your arrival. For students currently living in Auen, Fawcett, and Stark, transition housing between Sunday, May 15-Friday, May 20 will be available in Marks Hall for CMC students only. More information about transition housing is below.
Summer housing ends on Friday, August 5, at 12 p.m. Current CMC students who need to stay on campus beyond August 5 need to indicate so on the application. Transition housing after August 5 is not available to CMC graduates and non-CMC students because they do not have a fall semester housing assignment. In most cases, transition housing to your fall housing assignment will be provided. Some residence halls will not be habitable by August 5, so you will be housed elsewhere temporarily.
Each apartment comes with four single rooms, two private bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The appliances provided include a refrigerator, a stove, an oven, and a dishwasher. There is no summer meal plan. There are no custodial services provided in the summer. Laundry is available with credit card payment. Parking at the student apartments is available for summer housing residents only. The studio apartments are not available for summer housing.
Costs, Billing, and Changes/Cancellations
All housing from Sunday, May 15 – Saturday, August 27 costs $217/week or $31/day. Unless you have been approved to return early in August for a College program (i.e. Athletics, Dean of Students Office, etc.), you will have to continue to pay for housing through August 27. The residence halls re-open for the fall semester on Sunday, August 28.
- If you are a CMC student, all billing will be applied to your CMC student account. This includes CMC graduates.
- If you are not a CMC student, you must pay your rent on a monthly basis – depending on your length of stay – to Lyn Hughes in the Dean of Students Office. Make checks payable to “Claremont McKenna College.” The first four weeks of rent for non-CMC students is required by Friday, May 13, prior to moving in to summer housing.
- Changes in requested dates for summer housing will be allowed up until Thursday, May 19. After May 19, you will be billed for the dates that you requested on your application. To change your requested dates for summer housing from what you submitted on your application, contact Lyn Hughes (firstname.lastname@example.org) in the Dean of Students Office.
For CMC students currently living in Auen, Fawcett, and Stark, you must move out of your room when the residence halls close on Sunday, May 15, at 12 p.m. and move into Marks Hall for transition housing. You will be contacted by Lyn Hughes or a Story House staff member once a room is available for you in Marks. Most of these rooms will not become available until closer to the end of finals week during May 9-13.
For CMC students currently living in Phillips, Beckett, Berger, Claremont, Benson, Marks, Crown, Appleby, Boswell, Green, or Wohlford who need transition housing, you may stay in your current room until you move into your summer housing on Friday, May 20 at 1 p.m. Special signs will be prepared with your name, room number, and approval date for you to pick up at Story House and post on your room door indicating that you have been approved to stay for transition housing.
There will be limited on-campus storage available, free of cost, during transition housing: before May 20 and after August 5. Transition storage is only available to summer housing residents and will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis. Transition storage in May will be provided at the Apartments. Transition storage in August or at the end of your summer stay on campus will be provided in Crown Hall. To access transition storage, you must schedule an appointment with Sean Rollolazo (email@example.com). Large furniture items cannot be stored in transition storage.
Many student services are unavailable during the summer, including the Health Center and Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services. Campus Safety operates 24/7 year-round. The Dean of Students Office and Story House will continue to operate during business hours in the summer.
Conduct issues will initiate an investigation which could lead to the loss of summer housing privileges.
