Critically acclaimed author Azar Nafisi will be the featured speaker at Claremont McKenna’s 68th Annual Commencement Ceremony, to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 on Pritzlaff Field.
You could say that the timing of Thomas Steyer’s presentation (Acting Politically to Avert Climate Disaster and Preserve American Prosperity) at the Athenaeum last Tuesday was momentous.
It was Earth Day; the 44th annual Earth Day to be exact and Mr. Steyer (the founder, and before he left the private sector, Senior Managing Member of Farallon Capital Management) likes exactitude in figures and facts.
September 12th marked the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Athenaeum. Read these excerpted remarks presented at the Athenaeum on that date by Athenaeum fellow Andrew Willis ’14 on the venerable institution’s history and what “The Ath” has meant to CMC since its founding:

Orientation is designed to introduce students and their families to the College's traditions, academic programs, and unique culture as well as to help students meet new people and learn more about the college experience. The Orientation Web Site offers information about the student, transfer, and international student orientation program and Parents Orientation, a separate yet concurrent program designed specifically for parents and family members.
George R. Roberts ’66 P’93, co-founder of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) and its co-chairman and co-chief executive officer, delivered the keynote address at the College’s 66th Annual Commencement ceremonies on May 18. Roberts spoke about his years at CMC and his experience in the business world, imparting advice on success and leadership to the graduates before the conferring of degrees amid shouts and cheers from the graduates and their loved ones on Pritzlaff Field.
“The Army I knew as a child, the one I experienced as a young officer, and the one I left in 2010 were as different as the times they resided in,” writes retired four-star General Stanley McChrystal in his recently published memoir My Share of the Task.
And yet, regardless of how the military has changed, McChrystal has learned invaluable lessons over the course of more than three decades in the U.S. Army.
