Career Services for Students
Career Action Model
CMC’s Career Action Model walks students through the 4 essential steps that will prepare you for a successful career and life. Figure out your career interests, then explore your options, before embarking on your internship, job or graduate school program:
1. Know Yourself
The best way to start your career development journey is to get to know yourself better and figure out what careers might match your individual interests, identity, values, and strengths.
2. Explore Options
College is the perfect time to explore all the career options available to you. The Soll Center for Student Opportunity offers a number of programs, events, and skills training to help you explore career paths successfully and in a supportive environment.
3. Get Prepared
It is important to be fully prepared before embarking on your internship or job search. Preparation includes goal setting, plan creation, finalizing your resume and cover letter approach, and creating your professional online brand.
4. Take Action
Now is the time to learn how to find opportunities that will help you achieve your goal, start networking strategically, practice your interviewing skills, and get ready to negotiate.
Career Interest Clusters
Your career is no longer defined by your academic major. Career Services is organized into eight “interest clusters”:
- Accounting & Financial Services
- Creative & Entertainment
- Government, Law & Public Policy
- Medicine, Healthcare & Biotech
- Science & Environment
- Non-Profit & Social Enterprise
- Technology & Entrepreneurship
This model allows students to explore multiple interests and interact with professionals and organizations across a wide variety of industries.
