Psychological assessments provide essential information needed to clarify diagnosis, identify strengths and areas of need, and guide recommendations for intervention and support. Using gold-standard methods, the Claremont Autism Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and psychological evaluations for individuals from infancy through adulthood. We specialize in assessment for autism and related neurodevelopmental differences, including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), intellectual disability, and language and learning disorders. We also have expertise in anxiety, mood and emotion dysregulation, and behavioral disorders.
We provide evidence-based social skills and adaptive behavior groups for autistic* children from preschool age through early adulthood. We focus on promoting social communication and social interaction within an inclusive environment that fosters wellbeing and a sense of belonging.
Preschool Groups (Ages 4-6).
We are certified providers of the UCLA evidence-based PEERS for Preschoolers curriculum. PEERS for Preschoolers is a 16-week, evidence-based curriculum for families of autistic children ages 4 to 6 years. Parent and child groups meet weekly for 90 minutes. Groups include an emphasis on:
- Initiating social interaction
- Responding to social interaction
- Listening and following directions
- Sharing, helping, and taking turns
- Asking to play and joining activities
- Learning and playing new games
- Keeping it cool with friends
- Being a good sport
School-Age Children and Teens (Ages 6 to 22).
We provide evidence-based social skills and adaptive behavior groups for autistic individuals ages 6 to 22. The two-hour groups meet weekly throughout the academic year. Groups include a combination of direct instruction, behavioral rehearsal, and naturalistic practice. Throughout the group sessions, clients receive individualized one-on-one support to promote social communication and interaction goals. Groups also include skill-building exercises designed to enhance emotion understanding and regulation. Common therapeutic targets include:
- Initiating and responding to social interaction
- Initiating, joining and exiting conversations and play
- Understanding and following group instructions and game rules
- Participating in group games and recreational activities
- Helping, sharing, and taking turns
- Handling social conflict and engaging in effective social problem solving
- Enhancing emotion and self-regulation (keeping it cool)
We offer intervention for individuals and families in a variety of formats, including individual therapy, parenting support, and family therapy. We adopt an evidence-based, tailored approach that draws upon multiple perspectives and integrates behavioral and cognitive-behavioral methods, mindfulness-based and emotion-focused approaches, and family systems work to best meet client needs.
Parenting Support. We provide parent coaching and support to families of autistic children exhibiting significant co-occurring behavioral difficulties. We adopt evidence-based methods and use established curricula such as the RUBI Autism Network’s parent coaching program.
Individual and Family Therapy Services. We offer evidence-based individual and family services to address additional areas of support need common to neurodiverse individuals, including intervention related to anxiety as well as mood difficulties and emotion dysregulation. We also provide broad family support, including co-parenting intervention and family therapy.
